The Miracle of Fatima: A Visit by Mary—or Something Stranger?

There’s a thin veil that separates us from the world beyond our gaze and it may be stranger than we imagine.  We hear about it in near-death experiences (NDEs), in stories about visits and signals passed on from the dead to the living, and in the tales of visitations from both aliens and angels.  It’s the latter I’m going to talk about here, specifically the event known as The Miracle of Fatima where 3 children claimed to have been visited by the Virgin Mary.

In the book DIMENSIONS,  Jacques Vallee, the famed scientist featured in Steven Spielberg’s classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind, took a close look at the facts surrounding the Miracle of Fatima.  Vallee has a much different take on the story than the one told in religious circles.  He writes that what many see as a visit by the Virgin Mary, he views as something closer to a UFO encounter with an alien being.  Sound like crazy talk?  Hear him out.

What Really Happened at Fatima?

You may already know the back story of the Miracle of Fatima.  In 1917, in Fatima, Portugal, three children “found themselves caught in a glowing light…and in the center of the light they perceived a little woman who spoke to them, begging them to return every month to the same spot.”  The children said the woman was the mother of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and return they did.

Over a number of months, the three children claimed to have a series of encounters with Mary who shared with them messages from God, missives like “pray the Rosary each day to bring peace to the world and to bring an end to the war.”  As the months ensued, the number of people who joined the children grew to the hundreds and then the thousands.  And here’s where the story gets a little stranger.

When the children would address Mary, no one else present could see who they were talking to.  No one else could hear Mary’s response. 

But when they looked to the sky above the children  (specifically on October 13, 1917, witnessed by at least 20,000 to even up to 70,000)  various witnesses reported seeing “a weird disk…emitting a bright flash…turning rapidly…plunging in zig-zag fashion.”

(The photograph above surfaced years later.  It was indeed published in 1951 by L’Osservatore Romano, purporting to be a lost photo of the miracle.  But it was later discovered to have been a case of mistaken identity: the photo was taken of a different strange solar phenomenon in a different town in Portugal in 1925)

 

 

Others heard the buzzing of bees, a sound associated with many modern-day UFO-sightings.  One witness saw “a luminous globe spinning through the clouds…the globe rose and disappeared into the sun.”  Vallee sums it up this way:

The events at Fatima  (specifically on October 13, 1917)  involve luminous spheres, lights with strange colors, a feeling of “heat waves”—all physical characteristics associated with UFOs.  They even include the typical falling-leaf motion of the saucer, zig-zagging through the air.  They also encompass prophecy and a loss of ordinary consciousness on the part of the witness.                      

What You Experienced at Fatima Depended on Your Faith

The accounts of what happened at Fatima, depend on who you talk to.  While some spoke of a visitation by a UFO-like airship, according to a priest who witnessed the event, the spinning globe “was a heavenly vehicle that carried the Mother of God from her throne above to this forbidden wasteland.”  But not all had this same sense of a divine presence.

Years later, an American writer named John Haffert went back and talked to some of the Miracle of Fatima witnesses. One commented that “even today, whenever there is lightening, I remember it, and I am afraid.” 

(Just before the event took place, it was raining and practically everyone had their umbrellas) :

Another man, who would go on to become a priest, said that after witnessing the event “people ran to the two chapels in the village which were soon filled to overflowing…when we realized the danger was over, there was an explosion of joy.”

People were “afraid” and sensed “danger”?  This does not sound like the friendliest of heavenly visitations.  But maybe it wasn’t a visit from Mary, after all.  There has always been a parallel between those who claim to have witnessed angels or divine beings, and those who encounter aliens, or in times past, fairies.  These entities often appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly.  They defy rationale or scientific explanation. They leave an indelible impression on those who experience them, sometimes good, sometimes not.

End-time deceptive signs and wonders – – The UFO phenomenon

We may not be alone in the universe.  But what does it really mean?

It all depends on each person’s interpretation of this statement.

“We are not alone” could mean different things to different people.   It’s all about terminology.

Some folks who are skeptical about the existence of space aliens may still believe that God, angels and demons exist in this universe, physically or otherwise.   So, in that sense they could also say that “we are not alone”.

(I am in this category since I am a firm believer in the existence of a Supreme Being – – God, the Creator)

I also concur with the vast majority of the world’s scientists and astronomers who seem to accept the possibility that since there are billions and billions of planets circling the billions and billions of sun-like stars within the billions and billions of galaxies in the indescribably huge universe(s), there has to be intelligent life somewhere there and that we are probably not alone, even though we still do not know for sure.

But when it comes to UFOs, the same vast majority seem to be skeptical that we have ever been  (or are being)  visited physically.   I agree with them again.

To me it takes more than a tremendous leap of faith to conclude that UFOs represent just such physical visitations to our Earth.

Yet the UFO phenomenon itself seems to be real.

But is it a definite proof that we have been  (or are being)  visited by physical extraterrestrial entities in physical extraterrestrial spacecraft?   So far, we haven’t seen any definite proof of this.

The recent Congressional Hearing has not come up with a single conclusive physical evidence of any allegedly recovered extraterrestrial physical spacecraft or any physical extraterrestrial artifact of any kind.   The only thing we know is that the Pentagon is just as perplexed about this phenomenon as the public is.

Should we start to look beyond the physical ETH  (physical Extraterrestrial Hypothesis)  origin of this strange, illusive phenomenon?

 

But first please read these quotes from a highly respected researcher Gary Bates, author of ALIEN INTRUSION:

Perhaps he’s showing us that size and distance and space and matter, regardless of their vastness, are insignificant compared to the worth of a human soul.

(My comment:  To me it is truly mind-boggling that every single individual living now among the nearly 8 billion in this entire world at this time is unique and different from the rest.  To me, this is simply miraculous, even mathematically speaking.  The only conclusion is that God made every single individual a unique, precious human soul!   In a similar manner, can the earth be a unique presence in the universe? – – N.H.)

God put stars in the heavens, not only for his glory, but, incredibly, for mankind whom he loves.

Genesis 1:14 states:

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”

More and more discoveries suggest design, intelligence and purpose in this amazing universe.

As we discover more of these truths, though, we have a paradox because another mystery seems to exist – – that is, the UFO phenomenon.

Why is it, when the search of space seems to be decreasing the likelihood of extraterrestrial visitors, the circumstantial evidence for UFO sightings seems to be constant?

Could Dr. Jacques Vallee be right?

Are these creatures from another “reality” or “dimension” that co-exist with us, rather than from far physical outer space?

First, let’s talk about the uniqueness of our Earth.

The Anthropic Principle states that the universe was especially suited for the well-being of mankind!

“As just one of hundreds of examples, consider the tides that the moon causes on earth.

If the moon was closer to the earth, tides would be greatly increased.

Ocean waves could sweep across the continents.

The seas themselves might heat to the boiling point from the resulting friction.

On the other hand, a more distant moon would reduce the tides.

Marine life would be endangered by the resulting preponderance of stagnant water.

Mankind would also be in trouble because the oxygen in the air we breathe is replenished by marine plants.

We can conclude that the moon is in the “correct” position for man’s well-being.

Even such details as the mass of protons and the strength of gravity have values that give stability to the universe and thus reinforce the Anthropic Principle.

The Anthropic Principle is a powerful argument that the universe was designed“.

“*Stars and their distance from the earth:

Our neighboring stars in our Milky Way galaxy are nicely spaced apart so that they produce just enough light to be seen, but are not so close that they overwhelm us with dangerous radiation or gravitational forces.  On the other hand, if they were farther away, the night sky would be considerably darker, and the stars would not be so useful as navigational aids and markers for the seasons, which mankind has used for many centuries.

*The solar system’s position in the galaxy:

The solar system is located about two-thirds of the way from the center of the Milky Way.  If it were closer to the center, where there is a concentration of other stars known as the galactic bulge, we would be overpowered by their brightness, and nothing else in the universe would be observable. If we were too close to the outer edge of the galaxy, the night sky would be too dark.

*Perfect daylight:

Our sun does not oscillate significantly in size the way many other stars appear to do.  This would make conditions unlivable on the earth.  The sun provides just the right amount of brightness to the earth and it is the perfect color (its wavelengths) for the job.  It has a yellow-white color, unlike many other stars of differing colors.  The peak intensity of its light is in the infrared spectrum, which provides warmth to all inhabitants of Earth.

*The earth spins at the correct speed:

The spin of the earth is ideal for producing day and night.  Longer days would cause a greater warming-up effect and, conversely, longer nights – – more cold.  A faster rate of spin would produce constant violent weather conditions.

*The right tilt:

The axis of the earth is tilted to an angle of 23.5 degrees.  This tilt allows the northern hemisphere to receive more sun from April to September, and the southern hemisphere from October to March, thus spreading the sun’s warmth over a greater part of the globe than if there were no tilt.  This seasonal change is absolutely vital for triggering the blossoming of plants and fruits, and to the courtship of some creatures.  If the tilt were any greater, the ice caps would melt in summer and flood the landmasses.  Any less tilt and the seasons would be less marked due to the reduced variation in temperatures.

*Perfect distance from the sun:

If we were 10 percent closer to the sun, the earth would have furnace-like temperatures, and 10 percent farther away would produce icy deserts.  Also, the oceans would boil off or freeze solid respectively, so there could be no life as we know it.

*The right size:

We are aware of the effects of reduced or increased gravity on the other planets in our solar system.    There is either too much or too little.  The earth is just the right size for its inhabitants.  Because of this, water remains in a liquid state.  Lesser gravity and the water would be lost to space due to the greater evaporation of cold water cause by lower atmospheric pressure.

*The water cycle:

Water covers 70 percent of the earth, via its oceans, rivers, lakes, and streams.  This arrangement (evaporation from oceans to form clouds that eventually cause rain to fall on the land) is unique within our solar system, and provides a convenient supply of fresh water for the earth’s life forms.

*Right construction:

Earth offers a vast supply of resources, such as wood, metals, animals, plants, and a host of others that are useful for mankind.  In addition, Earth has the right conditions to permit the formation and maintenance of the ozone layer in the atmosphere to protect us.  It has a magnetic field which helps deflect harmful radiation from the sun.  The magnetic field also aids navigation for man and beast. Our atmosphere is composed of just the right gases, unlike some of the noxious combinations found elsewhere in our solar system.”

AGAIN, LET’S REVIEW  THE UFO QUESTION:

In my opinion, Dr. Jacques Vallee is probably the world’s top-most authority on the deep nature of the UFO phenomenon.

I totally concur with Dr. Vallee when he stated that “the things we call  ‘unidentified flying objects’  may neither be objects nor flying”.

One of the strangest characteristics of this phenomenon seems to be its ability to materialize and dematerialize at will, violating the laws of motion as we know them.

The phenomenon even seems to be able to interact with our physical parameters  (such as radar, etc.)

Another is its seeming difficulty in surviving in our physical dimension except for a short period of time, such as few seconds or for few minutes at a time.

It is my belief that the phenomenon also seems to “pre-select” its observers and locations, for reasons yet unknown.

The reality, in my opinion, is that “they” are deceptive, manipulative and malevolent entities from another dimension, deceiving us by paraphysically materializing and “posing” as “ETs” from highly advanced civilizations from outer space.

This does not mean that “benevolent” ones do not exist.

In fact, it is my belief that the “benevolent” ones not only exist but they are in the majority, i.e., with the ratio of 2 to 1 against the “malevolent” ones.   (i.e., for every “malevolent” one, there are two “benevolent” ones).

Eons ago, one third of all cosmic, sentient, paraphysical angelic entities were thrown out of their special domain by the Creator for participating in a cosmic-shaking revolt led by Lucifer who became Satan, and his followers “fallen angels”  – – as suggested in Revelation 12:4 – – many biblical scholars seem to support this interpretation.

Perhaps the “benevolent” ones are doing good works without being seen by most of us.  Perhaps they are what are believed to be “guardian angels”.   But the ones that are deceiving people and causing “confusion” are certainly not the “benevolent” ones.

Tom Farmer, a researcher, stated:

“John A. Keel pointed out 50+ years ago that UFOs come in too many form factors, “crash” too often and spout too much nonsense to contactees to be nuts-and-bolts spacecraft crewed by explorers from afar.  They are a current-frame-of-reference manifestations of a trickster intelligence that has always been with us.”

Mistakes at this controversial biodefense lab at Kirtland Air Force base in Albuquerque led to animal injuries, deaths and escapes

Last year, a New Mexico biodefense lab that studies plague, anthrax, and radiation subjected more monkeys to unrelieved pain and distress than any other facility in the nation.  Now, pointing to years of federal inspections finding animal welfare violations, a watchdog group is demanding an official investigation.

Nestled on the Kirtland Air Force Base, near the runways of Albuquerque’s international airport, the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute isn’t exactly a household name.

But thanks to its close military ties, and facilities that allow it to work with deadly viruses and bacteria, Lovelace leads the nation on one measure:  In 2014, it subjected 431 monkeys to controversial experiments involving unalleviated pain or distress — more than any other research lab.

As BuzzFeed News revealed earlier this month, Lovelace is a leading player in experiments that have exposed thousands of research monkeys to deadly microbes or radiation, in the hope of developing drugs and vaccines to protect the U.S. public and its armed forces from weapons of mass destruction.

Now, after a fifth government inspection in two years found that Lovelace has failed to comply with animal care regulations, an advocacy group has filed an official complaint with the USDA demanding an investigation of the lab’s welfare and safety record.

“I am very disturbed that this facility has been allowed to violate the Animal Welfare Act for several years,” wrote Michael Budkie, executive director of Stop Animal Exploitation Now, in a July 13 letter to agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack. “Lovelace’s carelessness not only hurts animals but also potentially endangers people.”

Budkie has also written to Tom Frieden, director of the CDC, requesting an investigation of the threats to human health.

BuzzFeed News has reached out to Lovelace’s public relations firm, its CEO, and the two federal agencies for comment.

The complaints follow a USDA inspection on June 17, which found four recent violations.

In May, a dog died after its lungs were accidentally over-inflated during a test of its lung function. And three times since March, a monkey escaped from its enclosure — two while being transferred between cages, the other after the animal released a clamp securing a metal panel on a cage door.

This is not the first time that Lovelace has been cited for problems of this type.  In March, another inspection report noted three more escapes, one where a large male rhesus macaque broke the lock securing its cage.  Several other monkeys were injured after getting their hands jammed in food receptacles, or in their cages.

In August 2013, there was a mix-up in which a technician misread a rhesus macaque’s identifying number, which led to the animal being euthanized.  The inspection report gives no details on why the animal had to be killed, but a letter sent by Lovelace to the National Institutes of Health reveals that the experiment involved exposure to radiation.  As a result of being misidentified, the monkey was dosed twice over.

And in March 2014, a rhesus macaque was found dead, apparently strangled when its collar got caught in the chain of a perch that had been added to its cage.

Lovelace’s record of non-compliance extends back over several years.

In 2011, it agreed to pay a fine of $21,750, after the USDA cited the lab for six violations between 2007 and 2009.  In addition to problems with the cages used to house monkeys, these involved inadequate veterinary care, mistakes by poorly trained technicians, and the approval of an experiment in which the lead scientist had failed to consider alternative approaches that would cause less animal pain or distress.

Lovelace was founded in the 1940s by a doctor who specialized in aviation medicine — and in 1959 it ran the medical tests used to help select NASA’s first corps of astronauts.  It later became heavily involved in animal testing, studying the effects of inhaling radioactive and toxic materials.  Under its current CEO, cell biologist Robert Rubin, Lovelace has expanded into drug development studies and biodefense research.

The numbers of animal deaths involved in the incidents cited by USDA inspectors are just a small fraction of those that occurred by design, during Lovelace’s biological and radiological defense experiments.

But Budkie, who has filed several animal welfare complaints against Lovelace in recent years, argues that the lab’s failure to prevent such accidents raises questions about its competence to be involved in such ethically challenging research.

All of the monkeys that escaped were recaptured, and did not leave the building in which they were housed.  But given that Lovelace is involved in experiments in which monkeys have been infected with diseases including plague and anthrax, its failure to keep animals in secure confinement is worrying.

Indeed, after an earlier monkey escape, the report of an inspection conducted in June 2014 raised concerns about Lovelace’s staffing.  The incident “illustrates the type of risk posed by not having enough adequately trained personnel to prevent such errors,” the inspector wrote.

That same report mentions four incidents in which monkeys had to be euthanized.  One was injured by a defective cage, another by a tunnel used to transfer monkeys between cages.  In another of these incidents, in August 2012, a long-tailed macaque was found with facial injuries and a compound fracture of its left leg, after being placed in the wrong pen with a group of unfamiliar animals.
