We miss you all….we will be coming back to good ‘ol New Mexico, U.S.A. on May 25, 2016….we will post just a few more photos in the next few days.
We started our trip first in Rome, then to Naples, back to Rome, then to Genova, then to Marseille, then to Aix-en-Provence, back to Marseille, then to Barcelona, then to Madrid, then to Jaen, then to Granada, then to Sevilla, then to Faro, then to Lisbon, then back to Madrid. We used trains and buses while we were traveling.
It was very scary but exciting because we made the plans of travel as we went along and just “played by ear” where to go next. It was such a great learning experience for us with lots of unexpected “happenings”. But we enjoyed it.

A reunion with Mrs. Gloria Viegas Ocasio, our friend Josefa’s mother…Mrs. Gloria Viegas Ocasio resides in Sao Bras, near Faro. (Josefa is one of our friends at the Meadowlark Senior Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico)…..one of the best salmon dishes we have ever eaten anywhere!

Inside the Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of the Bones) annex at the Igreja do Carmo (Church) in Faro, Portugal.

The chapel was built from the skulls of over 1,000 Carmelite monks as a blackly reverent reminder of earthly impermanence. They were exhumed from the nearby church cemetery when the ossuary was built in 1826.

Close to a thousand descendants of six Japanese samurai live.
The samurai were part of the first official envoy to Spain in early 17th Century.
The six samurai decided to stay in this town and married the locals.
There are close to a 1,000 Spanish folks in this town who have the surname Japon, such as Manuel Juan Japon, Maria Josefina Japon, etc., etc…..but today they all look like regular Spanish folks

Wow, sounds like you had an awesome trip! And to go there on your own, without a tour guide, took some guts! I enjoyed all your pictures, especially the ones in Spain, (I didn’t get to go there when I was in Europe!) and that video was facinating! I will have to read up about it, sounds interesting!
